Harmonizing Hormones
Whether it's your period, menopause, stress, a hysterectomy, or plain old heredity, women have felt defenseless to hormonal cravings and lethargic metabolisms for centuries, with nothing to prove it but women's intuition.
Great news ladies! You no longer have to blame your hormones for every little thing without a shred of evidence. Scientists have come to the rescue and proven that Female Hormones play an integral part when it comes to Hunger, Weight Gain and Fat Metabolism.
By banishing the "bad" hormones and crank up the "good" hormones, you can lose weight, feel relaxed, sleep well, increase your energy and your sex drive!
Here are some of the key players when it comes to hormones and some tips on how to control them:
CORTISOL: Stressful lives, jobs, families and a tight schedule lead to stress, as we know. STRESS activates the "fight-or-flight" response (the body's involuntary response to a threat that makes our hearts pound and our breath shorten). And this stimulates CORTISOL.
CORTISOL:
automatically kicks up your appetite
makes you want to eat huge quantities food (sweets & carbohydrates)
your insulin levels spike and then plummet
it produces "stress fat" which is concentrated deep in your tummy.
This is not good news in relation to weight loss.
So how do you control CORTISOL levels?
You can choose to be optimistic and positive, try yoga or tai chi, go for a walk, meditate or simply try to laugh more.
If you are like me, you might like to get serious about CORTISOL and try a supplement called CORTITROL; made of Chinese herbs designed to promote relaxation, increase concentration, improve sleep and level out CORTITROL.
MELATONIN: is the light-sensitive hormone produced by the pineal gland. During the night, melatonin regulates LEPTIN which is responsible for regulation (decrease) of appetite and (increase) of metabolism.
Melatonin is produced primarily when we sleep. This means that if you are not getting enough sleep (between 6 and 8 hours) you are more likely to disrupt the female hormones that control your eating habits and your metabolism. This means WEIGHT GAIN!
Quite simply, try to get regular sleep and this will make a great difference to your body's ability to process glucose.
Tips for getting a good night's rest:
Go outside - 30 mins of daylight / day can keep serotonin and cortisol at normal levels
Take a walk
Reduce stimulants - coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, chocolate
Sleep in a dark room - darkness stimulates the production of MELATONIN.
HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE: is a hormone that stimulates growth and cell reproduction. The more HGH you have in your body, the "younger" you feel.
You can bounce out of bed in the morning, your hair and skin feels fresh, your energy levels are increased and you will feel like 20 something, not older.
Sylvester Stallone and numerous other Hollywood stars pay $1000/wk for synthetic HGH. Why pay outrageous amounts of money when you can stimulate your own HGH!
How can you do it?
Eat good, natural food in sensible amounts regularly throughout the day
Get great sleep and do a bit of exercise
Take good nutritional supplements
Drink plenty of water.
Balancing your hormones can be easy and once you have them under control, rather than the other way around, you will have a greater ability to lose weight and feel great.
